Kitsilano House Deconstruction

Kitsilano House Deconstruction

In case you missed it:

On Saturday Februay 27, 2016 we stopped by Naturally Crafted’s Design and Reclaimed Wood Showcase taking place in their latest renovation of a residence in Kitsilano. Weeks earlier, they had deconstructed a home from the adjacent neighborhood. They salvaged and remanufactured that very same wood to be used in this home, giving the material a new life within just a few blocks of Vancouver.  Adam, the founder and contractor commented, “It is truly a rewarding feeling to take a house down by hand and re-work the materials to install in a new custom home.”

A little background please:

Naturally Crafted is a sustainable contracting company that offers deconstruction, high-end carpentry, and renovation services. They specialize in reclaimed and reusing wood in a variety of creative and beautiful ways in addition to their latest venture into designing and building passive houses. Their team is made up of people who truly live what they preach by choosing a conscious lifestyle with minimal environmental impact.

Before and After:

The Kitsilano renovation was immediately warm and inviting. Displayed throughout the space were ‘before’ pictures, showing the drastic change that Naturally Crafted made to make this one of a kind home. The team comments, “The structural elements are 'faux' with solid reclaimed flooring and stair treads. Though the space is new and fresh, the wood provides a sense of warmth and history.”

The kitchen was opened up to create a more spacious kitchen/dining area and the carpet flooring was replaced with reclaimed Fir. The stair treads were stripped of their carpeted cover and the wood was reclaimed and remanufactured.

The Master Bedroom was likewise stripped of its carpet and replaced with the warmer, reclaimed Fir from Naturally Crafted’s previous deconstruction.

The Living Room wall was taken out to give a view into the kitchen/dining area, making the smaller space feel spacious and open. The carpet was replaced again with reclaimed Fir salvaged from the nearby home’s deconstruction. The structural beam shown here was uncovered and emphasized in this new design.
