Ian Simpson

“It was a personal goal in 2011 to participate in the green economy that was outlined to me in the Greenest City Action Plan. I have always been an advocate for the environment and so I decided it was time I put my talents, money and work ethic behind the statements I was making about living a sustainable lifestyle. At the same time I also had the professional goal of becoming a Teacher. As I was going through the teacher training, however, I began to discover that students at every level lacked sufficient connections to real life problems and the industries, individuals, or institutions that could inevitably solve these problems. I quickly coupled my professional and personal goals together. What I have discovered in doing this is that there is tremendous economic and educational (social) value in removing an item from the waste stream, re-purposing it and designing with it. At its most basic level my intention with the work I am doing is to participate in the change I believe is needed to clean up the mess that the current production/consumption paradigm is producing.”
