“I started by building a boat with my Dad when I was about 15 and then using the offcut metal to build sculpture in the yard. I love recycling and also using pieces of metal from planes, boats, helicopters, machinery. They all are unique and challenge me to design. I started making small items like clocks, vases, coat stands, etc. out of offcuts of metal from scrap yards. I think the scrapyards with all the odd and wonderful pieces of metal got my creative juices expanding. I did not finish high school but have taken courses or helped other artists as a teacher assistant and learned mostly on my own. My goal is to create designs that withstand the test of time, fit the modern world but use traditional methods and tools, and do not end up in the landfill....most of the parts of my pieces can be recycled.”
